One day in September 2019, when I was scheduled for a workshop at Muju, I was amazed to see a bulletin board at the Express Bus Terminal Station of No. 3 Subway.
It showed how the faces of missing persons have changed to the present complexion presumed by artificial intelligence (AI). Such marvelous AI technology has been provided by KIST to help these missing people to find their families.
Certainly we can tell how much a long period of time changes our appearance and attitude.
Yes, it is a sufficient time for a landscape to change during a decade. We usually say a forest has changed into a sea as decades have passed.
* (위 사진설명) 미아 발생 수십 년이 지난 후 성인 얼굴로 바뀐 것을 보니 뽕나무 밭이 바다가 되었다는 상전벽해(桑田碧海)라는 말이 실감이 났다. KIST에서 기술지원하는 인공지능의 힘이 놀랍고 그만큼 세월이 많이 흘렀다는 뜻이었다.
The tourist bus, which was going to carry us to Muju, was funny!
It is really a moving karaoche operated by the driver "Lucky Moon". He welcomes any kind of meetings which need the instrumental accompaniment.
Our destination was Wujeong Training Center for senior citizens. It is located within the premises of the Muju Ski Resort at the foot of Mt. Deokyu-san. International Taekwondo-won is located nearby.
Surely, the ski resort and the Deokyu National Park have changed a lot the landscape of Muju area.
Long time ago, it was one of the remotest mountain valleys in Korea. Now, Muju County is criss-crossed by express highways to Daejeon, Jeonju, Tongyeong and Daegu.
All the participants took part in the classes provided by the Korean Senior Citizens Associations (대한노인회), and enjoyed meals in a mini-buffet style. Really, it was not for the taste or relish of participants but for their health.
We were satisfied with such catering service.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed a singalong class under the direction of a beautiful recreation leader.
She stressed that singing and dancing with big laghter are good for senior citizens' health. All the audience shouted "Yes".
Next morning, I took a walk around the lake (설천호수) which began to be decorated by changing colors of leaves.
The sky was blue, and the air was brisk. I felt like to live in a counryside palace.
From the practical point of view, water resources are good to make artificial snow in winter ski season.
After the workshop, all the participants took an individual and group pictures in a batchelor degree robe.
Though I earned a Ph.D. degree in law, I was willing to take a new picture in a batchelor degree robe. It's because it means a significant academic achievement.
Then we left the Muju resort in order to get to Seoul just before the evening rush hours.
The landscape outside of the tour bus was quickly changing. Slowly moving white clouds were left behind.
Four or five decades ago, there was no express highway in this area. At that time, countryside buses carried passengers on narrow and winding roads, as seen below outside the bus window.
Tho' it is unnoticed,
I've become older
Than the visible real world.
어느 새
산천(山川)보다 빨리
바뀌어버린 내 나이
Thank God, I’ve lived a life
Goin’ thru tolerable
Ups and downs, and troubles.
무탈하게 살아온 삶
그것만으로
감사할 일
