There is Byeol Madamg (meaning 'Starfield') Library at the center of COEX Mall in Seoul.
Visitors and shoppers are startled to see the two-story library housing more than 50 thousand books of all kinds, thousands of EBook accessible and readable through installed Pads, and 600 magazines from various countries.
It says "This library is open to all, free of charge, so that they may enjoy healing, meeting, and book-based communications toward culture, art and science" (휴식과 만남, 그리고 책을 주제로 소통하는 문화 감성 공간. 누구나 무료로 이용할 수 있도록 모두에게 열려 있습니다).
Most important things are it's free to enter the library. There are convenience stores equipped with snacks, food and beverage in the every corner.
Sometimes there are unforgettable events including lectures, talk shows, small recitals, etc. It is said that Starfield Library is a contrarian product of Shinsegae Group Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin.
As a matter of fact, it could earn more money to lease a number of shops rather than a library.
In last summer when most citizens were troubled by unprecedented heat all day long, many diligent book lovers used to spend their time in this place. During the peak of summer, the seats were fully employed by visitors and passers-by.
